A/E/C Spring Fling Networking and Membership Drive

Spring is in the air…..at least it was at the A/E/C Spring Fling networking event at Kona Grill. Even though the weather was on the cooler side and a little breezy, it was a very pleasant evening with a great mix of company. We had a fun, intimate group of approximately 20 individuals made up of architects, engineers, and contractors from the Tampa Bay area.

Business Planning Program Recap

On January 31st, 2013, SMPS Tampa Bay hosted our first educational program of the new fiscal year. The event started off with Professor Lux asking the attendees to write down a problem they have for the year. Each problem was then scored and the attendees then led through a series of exercises and creative problem solving techniques to help brainstorm solutions to the highest ranking or “biggest” problem of the group. Attendees walked away with numerous tools that they could use in future strategic planning sessions to help solve business and/or marketing problems each attendee will face in the upcoming year.

This program was a great success for our chapter, receiving great feedback from the attendees. We would like to thank Chaz Brueggemann, SMPS Tampa Bay’s Director of Education, for putting together such a wonderful event!

Holiday Event 2012

The holiday spirit was evident once again in the A/E/C community on December 13th at the SMPS Tampa Bay Holiday Event and Silent Auction. This event was spearheaded by Tiffanie Reynolds of Stantec’s Tampa office. It was held at the Carne Chophouse in Centro Ybor, and featured great food, live music and a silent auction, not to mention networking opportunities galore.

100% of proceeds raised at this event go to the Hillsborough County Children’s Services Department – more than $2,000 per our early estimates. Eight Hillsborough County representatives who work with the youth through this program were in attendence to support out efforts, amongst nearly 50 A/E/C community attendees. We are very proud of the support received and our partners who sponsored this wonderful event!

Mixing It Up!

SMPS Tampa Bay was a proud participant of The Ultimate Mixer event on October 23, 2012. This highly successful event brought together professionals from 12 participating organizations encompassing the region’s advertising, communications, creative, marketing, media, and public relations communities. We look forward to being involved again in 2013!

We Built Our Proposal Toolkit!

On October 12th, 2012, SMPS Tampa Bay hosted our first educational event of the new year, Building Your Proposal Toolkit. This half day seminar was hosted at the Crowne Plaza in Tampa and welcomed 55 attendees – a great mix of marketers, business developers, and technical staff looking to improve their proposal development skills. The keynote presentation by Stephen Boughton of FMI Corporation was followed by a series of roundtable discussions. At each table, a facilitator guided the discussion on various topics such as cover letters, content development, reviews, production, etc. We then shared key highlights with the entire room. All attendees left with a CD full of resources, including templates, checklists and additional reading.

We also collected school supplies for Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools as part of our event’s “get a tool, give a tool” program. What a great event to kick off our educational programs for the new year!
